Lang Maria Liu - "Professora Lang" - has been playing capoeira for twenty-eight years and is a teacher (Formada) of Filhos de Bimba Escola de Capoeira under the guidance of Mestre Nenel, the son of Mestre Bimba. Lang taught in Toronto for over twenty years, sharing her passion for capoeira and Afro-Bahian arts through community-building events, classes, shows and trips to Brazil. She has a masters in Anthropology and a Ph.D. in Education. Her book Bimba's Rhythm is One, Two, Three: From Resistance to Transformation Through Brazilian Capoeira advocates for a holistic approach to life based in traditional knowledge. Lang is also a Gokhale Method primal posture teacher, helping people with back and joint pain, and a Sivananda Yoga teacher. She is currently in Ottawa completing a masters in Counselling Psychology, with a focus on trauma and healing. For more information: langmliu@hotmail.com Meredith (Deech) Kenny - "Marionete" - has been practicing Capoeira Regional in Canada, Brazil and the U.S. since 2006. Meredith is the senior student of Professora Lang who is responsible for the Filhos de Bimba Capoeira Escola de Capoeira in Toronto, the first Filhos de Bimba School established in North America under the guidance of Manoel Nascimento Machado (Mestre Nenel), son of the creator of Capoeira Regional, Manoel Dos Reis Machado (Mestre Bimba). Meredith is currently teaching capoeira classes for adults and youth in Toronto. When not playing capoeira, she can be found running in the mountains or cycling on urban adventures. Meredith is also a Toronto-based Producer, Designer, and Arts Educator working in dance, theatre and animation.
